When generosity comes back multiplied

By Christine Langdon  -  A big part of the joy we get from The Good Registry is seeing the joy it creates for others.

We don’t always get to see the impact firsthand — so when feedback does make its way back to us, it’s incredibly meaningful.

Recently, we were lucky enough to receive a flood of it, thanks to David Cunningham, the CEO of Squirrel, who shared what happens in his inbox every time he gifts Good Gift Cards to his team.

David is a true OG of The Good Registry. He was the very first CEO to use our platform for workplace gift giving, and he has continued to gift with us regularly over many years.

Most recently, he gave Good Gift Cards to all Squirrel staff for Christmas, allowing each team member to donate to charities of their choice.

After years of gifting as a CEO, he’d often received little or no feedback from staff. But that changed completely when he started giving Good Gift Cards. His inbox fills up every time.

Here’s a small snapshot:

“Awesome thanks! Have donated $50 to St John.”

“What a fantastic idea! This is super amazing and beautiful.”

“It was hard choosing between so many great charities — but I went with Big Buddy.”

“The kids have just chosen three charities to split between… it was really special to decide together.”

“It’s always a special feeling to give back to society — and this is such a great way to do that.”

“Thank you so much — what a wonderful gift to be able to donate to such amazing charities.”

The messages range from joyful and immediate (“Donation made!”) to deeply personal — families choosing causes together, people honouring loved ones, and team members reflecting on what it means to be part of a values-led organisation.

That’s the power of giving people choice. It turns a gift into something personal, participatory, and genuinely meaningful.

We’re deeply grateful to David and everyone at Squirrel for showing what values-led leadership looks like in practice — and for being such generous, wholehearted bringers of joy.

When generosity is shared this way, it doesn’t just land once - It ripples far and wide!
