Meet our Good Sorts

We have a great team of Good Sorts helping us at The Good Registry, so we’d like you to meet them!

This week we’ve asked our lovely new communications intern Liv to introduce herself:

Hi, I’m Olivia Wheeler, but you can call me Liv. I am twenty years old, and I was born in New Zealand.

I am in my final year of a Bachelor of Communication at Massey University in Wellington, majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Media Studies. Public Relations is connected with negative connotations. I want to change that perspective with the opportunity to help and reach people, working alongside The Good Registry.

I grew up with a family that always had jobs caring for and looking after the community, with my Grandmother and Mum being nurses, my Grandfathers being a policeman a farmer and my Dad being in the New Zealand Army.

Growing up with a Dad in the army meant I grew up around New Zealand and the world. I was on the road often, exploring places from Palmerston North and Waiouru to Australia and the United States. Being able to travel has given me the ability to view the differences in lifestyles people lead. The one area that I call home and have lived in the longest is Wellington, New Zealand. My parents often tell me that the best education is the ability to travel. I agree with them as the trips I have taken have given me lots of opportunities. Travel has taught me to value little things, broadened my perspective of the way I saw things and made me more knowledgeable.

The Good Registry is a perfect fit for me as I love giving to those who need and don’t like to create waste. The idea of gifting to me shouldn’t be about anything other than showing that you actually care about someone. Gifting should cause warm and fuzzy feelings but also help the environment and the people around us. Knowing that I’m working with a social enterprise that helps put a lot back into the New Zealand community with different charities means a lot to me.

Charities that mean a lot to me are the SPCA and Wellington Women’s Refuge. I have volunteered for the SPCA looking after some of the animals and have seen how they use their funding first hand. Throughout high school at Wellington Girls’ College we often worked alongside Wellington Women’s Refuge raising money for them at school events. Seeing the difference it made to these women first hand was huge.

I am going to be working with The Good Registry one day a week capturing stories from people who love The Good Registry and working on The Good Registry’s social media. I’m excited to start working with The Good Registry as it will allow me to put my skills to the test in practical situations.

Don’t be shy to get in contact with me, let me know if there is anything you need help with and if you want to share your story! (You can email Liv at @[email protected]).
