Garden to Table: Empowering children through kai

By Vihan Dalal - Recent research has highlighted high levels of food insecurity in New Zealand, with about a quarter of families sometimes or often going without food.

The Good Registry partners with several charities that are helping to combat food insecurity - to help ensure that families and tamariki have nutritional kai on the table.

One of those charities is Garden to Table.

Garden To Table is a local registered charity that enables schools throughout the country to deliver, embed, and sustain impactful food education.

Their curriculum-linked food education programme takes learning out of the classroom and empowers kids to grow and cook fresh and sustainable kai.

They then share their lunch with their peers, learning how to nurture and look after one another.

They’ve recently released their impact report for 2024 and  last year they empowered 326 schools to deliver food education programmes.

That means over a million meals were grown, cooked, and loved by the kids.

Around 34,230 children have been growing, harvesting, preparing, and sharing food, which is about 1700 more than 2023! And 90 per cent of surveyed principals agreed that Garden to Table has helped tamariki build knowledge and skills to grow and cook fresh food.

We are very proud that our givers at The Good Registry have contributed to this.

They are one of our 65 charity partners at The Good Registry and our givers have  contributed $30,000 to date to support their awesome work.

Donations through The Good Registry have enabled thousands of kids to learn practical skills needed for life while forging deep connections at a tender age.

Such a lasting impact on our tamariki and society can start with a donation through The Good Registry by you.
