Charity Spotlight: Skylight Trust

By Vihan Dalal - The Skylight Trust is a national charity that offers a complete range of care for children aged five to 18 with mild to moderate mental health concerns.

They are one of our 65 charity partners and have received more than $10,000 in donations through The Good Registry so far.

Last year, Skylight experienced immense growth and expansion, with the Awhi Mai Awhi Atu Counselling Services for Students’ Wellbeing in 29 Primary and Secondary Schools in Waikato, South Canterbury, and Wellington.

This initiative has delivered transformative results as it has reached 1,643 tamariki and rangatahi and improved their learning progress, mental wellbeing, and classroom engagement.

The programme has received positive feedback from tamariki and rangatahi, along with their educators and whānau too.

Skylight has also undertaken school programmes such as their Travellers programme, which guides tamariki through life’s journey, Tai-oranga – a wellbeing and resilience programme in primary schools, and Matika, an after school programme providing bereavement support.

According to their impact report for 2023-2024, Skylight reached 1,305 tamariki through school-based initiatives, enabling improved engagement in education, progress learning, and mental well-being.

Skylight has a range of resources and publications available on its website and online shop to help support children and young people in times of trauma, grief and loss.

Skylight also continues to play a role in reducing the stigma around mental health, as it has delivered 6,100 clinical interactions for counselling, bereavement support, and resilience workshops.

Your donations through The Good Registry help to enable charities like Skylight Trust to deliver mental health services to thousands of kids and young individuals, and to make a transformative difference in their lives.
