Charity spotlight: Lifeline Aotearoa

By Jaydah Alkamil -

Lifeline Aotearoa provides free confidential helpline and text support to people at high risk of suicide and self-harm or struggling with their mental health.

The team at Lifeline has been helping Kiwis for more than 60 years, responding to more than 40,000 calls and 182,603 texts in the last financial year. Additionally, the team has created 4736 safety plans for people at high risk of suicide or self-harm.

The current lack of government funding for Lifeline’s helplines continues to be a challenge, particularly since community need for support from Lifeline remains high.

Access to mental health support remains a big issue in New Zealand especially in rural and marginalised communities.

In the words of one caller “It really made me feel like I’m not alone in this world and there are people like you that help.”

Another caller wrote “It felt like I could finally open up to someone.”

These messages highlight the essential work Lifeline does in responding to calls and texts from people anywhere in New Zealand.

When people choose to donate a to Lifeline through the Good Registry, they’re helping to fund the vital Lifeline service.
