Wellington student Grainger Scott is heading overseas to take up a scholarship at an American university – so for his upcoming 21st birthday, he realised he really didn’t need any things that he wouldn’t be able to take away with him.
So he set up a Good Registry for his birthday. Without putting a lot of thought into it, he chose Wellington Free Ambulance as the charity for his registry, and wrote a fairly straight-forward message for anyone who decided to give through the registry (“Big up the ambulances and dat”).
Job done, think no more of it….
Until a week after he set up the registry, when Grainger was helping his Uncle move some building materials, and a medical emergency struck. Grainger’s own first aid training was called into play, and he gave his Uncle CPR until emergency services, including Wellington Free Ambulance, arrived. This story has a happy ending: his Uncle is alive and well. Genuinely, and with all our hearts, big up the ambulances.
At Grainger’s 21st birthday party there was a lot to celebrate, and it was with real pride that he noted his birthday registry had raised more than $1000 for Wellington Free Ambulance.
A birthday registry with The Good Registry is good in so many ways. No stuff you can’t take away with you; no stress for family members; and money going where it’s needed most.
Nice one Grainger; you’re a genuine hero.
If you would like to create a registry for your birthday too, you can do that here.
